Australia beats China in Women’s Water Polo: Quarterfinal – London Olympic Games
Australia beats China in the Quarterfinal of Women’s Water Polo match on ninth day of the water polo events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in Water Polo Arena on Sunday, August 5.
The match was the toughest of all quarterfinals that took place in the session. Both teams demonstrated their unrelenting efforts in the regular time, where the score tied and the game reached extra time. They also matched their efforts in the extra time and then, Australia embraced victory by taking a lead of two goals in the penalty shootouts.
The crowd enjoyed ruthless efforts of both squads, who were trying really hard to overpower each other and reach the semi-final. Both teams scored five goals each in the first quarter of the game while the same continued in second quarter.
Australia scored two goals in the start of the second quarter while their effort was matched by Chinese players after few minutes. Both teams then improved their score by one goal each and the score went up to 8-all after the first half.
 Nevertheless, the Chinese team came strong in the third quarter as they overcame Australia’s two goals effort by accomplishing four goals, making the score 12-10 after the third round.
Furthermore, the tables turned in the fourth quarter, where Australian team bounced back by scoring four goals while China managed to increase their score tally by just two marks and the score remained 14-each after the fourth quarter.
Subsequently, Australia dominated the first half of extra time where they scored two goals and China remained at one. In the second half, Chinese players blocked all efforts of Australian team and scored one goal to tie the match with 16-all.
Finally, China scored just two goals in the penalty shootouts while Australian team found the cage four times and proved their mettle for the semi-final by winning the match with an 18-20 effort.
The audience appreciated commendable struggles of both teams while Australia received massive appreciation for their victory. In addition, Australia is now scheduled to compete with United States in the semi-final on Tuesday, August 7.
