Australia call up uncapped Holly Ferling for women’s World Cup – Cricket News Update
Australia have named tyros Elyse Villani and Megan Schutt in their 15-member squad to contest in the latest edition of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 early next year. Cricket Australia's Women's National Selection Panel [WNSP] has also named uncapped teen Holly Ferling in the touring party, that will be led by Jodie Fields.
Schutt, who made her ODI debut during Australia's recent Rose Bowl series win over trans-Tasmanian rivals New Zealand, and explosive young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-Julian-c84343 Hunter, Ellyse Perry and Sarah Coyte.
Seven players in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s current squad, including skipper Jodie Fields, were also part of the previous edition of the women’s world cup in 2009, which the Aussie women had finished fourth. The other six players who will be contesting in their second world cup include pace spearhead Ellyse Perry, Lisa Sthalekar, Alex Blackwell, Erin Osborne and Jess Cameron.
Commenting on the squad, WNSP chair of selectors Julie Savage said: "The WNSP have selected a powerful and well-balanced squad to contest the ICC Women's World Cup India 2013."
"Recent international matches suggest this will be a very closely contested event. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, as well as India on their home turf and the powerfully athletic West Indian team will provide tough contests throughout the entire event," she added further.
The latest edition of the premier international championship of women's One Day International cricket will be hosted by four venues in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, India, from January 31 to February 17.
A total of eight teams will compete for the coveted trophy, currently held with the English women. Australia have been drawn in Group B, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Jodie Field and women will take on their Pakistan counterparts in the tournament opener at the Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai on January 31, 2013.
