Australia clinch a stunning victory over China: Women's World League – Water Polo News
The Australian Women’s water polo team beat the Chinese Women’s water polo team in a vital water polo match of the FINA World League with a fringe margin of 9-7 goals, at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, on Friday, May 20.
From the Australian side, B Knox was declared as the best player of the match. She scored three crucial goals into the Chinese net.
The Australian Women’s water polo team will take part in the FINA World League Super Finals which will be held in China from June 14-19, 2011. Afterwards, they will participate in the Kirishi Cup in Russia and then will move towards China for the all important
FINA World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
Australian, Lea Barta, said that she is immensely determined and motivated to perform terrifically well against the arch rivals. Barta added, “One of my goals was to be chosen in the team for this match to play China and I wanted to earn respect from the
other teams and make them afraid when they have to play me in the future.”
She further asserted that she feels an immense amount of self-satisfaction after being chosen for the mega event and she has responded brilliantly according to her team’s expectations. In fact, the whole team contributed to their magnificent victory over
China.
The player said that their communication was excellent and up to the mark throughout the whole tournament, as every player executed their job well. Despite a resolute performance against China, Barta still finds gaps of improvements in water polo for her.
She is pleased with how she played, but she most likely could have got to a couple more balls and will be working on a regular basis.
Both the Australian and Chinese Women’s water polo teams have confirmed their places for the FINA World League Super Finals.
Australia coach, Greg McFadden said, “I think we have had three hard weeks with the national league finals and both world league rounds with no down time. The girls have shown fatigue at times because we have been training really hard as well as playing
but it was good to see them pick themselves up tonight and show what they're made of.”
The Australian team is very happy and pleased where they are standing at the moment. China is a very competitive and professional team and the standard of the game displayed by the Australians was immense in the match.
Australian Women’s water polo team for the upcoming Kirishi Cup and World League Super Finals will be confirmed in the upcoming week.
