Australia complete 6-1 series win over England
Australia defeated England comprehensively in the last One Day International (ODI) of the seven-match series played at Perth. The series turned out to be a one-sided affair as the hosts remained dominant, winning by 6-1.
Australia won the toss at Perth and elected to bat first considering the flat nature of the wicket. They amassed 279 runs in their allotted 50 overs but the Poms were below par, as they managed only 222 before getting all out in 44 overs.
The innings were started by Tim Paine and Brad Haddin for Australia. Paine was brought in to the Australian side as a replacement for Shane Watson. However, the return to ODI cricket for the young wicketkeeper and batsman wasn’t noteworthy.
Paine was dismissed after just scoring five runs off seven balls. His wicket brought Callum Ferguson at the crease but he also failed to impress. Ferguson was dismissed after scoring 15 runs off 23 balls in the ninth over. The Kangaroos were left struggling
with 35 for the loss of 2 wickets.
Brad Haddin and the stand-in captain, Cameron White, were not able to carry on the good starts they got and both were dismissed for 27 and 24 respectively. In 25.2 overs, Australia were 103 for the loss of 4 wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 joined David Hussey at bat and the pair rescued the Aussies from a dismal defeat. They scored a 95-run partnership to take their team to 198 runs in 39 overs. However, Hussey was dismissed after etching out 60 runs. He struck five 4s and one towering
six in his innings.
Mitchell Johnson helped Voges to build yet another good partnership for Australia and the pair took the team to 243 in the 47th over. Johnson played a cameo innings of 26 runs from just 25 balls before getting out.
The star of the show for the hosts was Voges, who continued to play his strokes freely and took the total to 279. Voges remained unbeaten on 80 off 72 balls and his innings included just four 4s. James Anderson and Liam Plunkett were the pick of the bowlers
for England. Anderson took three wickets in the match, whereas Plunkett finished with two.
The start to the English innings was terrible as both openers Andrew Strauss and Steve Davies were dismissed for a duck. Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell fell cheaply for 14, 26 and 8 runs respectively, leaving England in deep trouble at 64 for
the loss of 5 wickets.
Some resistance came from the lower middle-order as Matt Prior and Michael Yardy constructed a 55-run partnership for their team. Prior failed to capitalize on his momentum and was dismissed for 39 runs off 51 balls. Luke Wright and Liam Plunkett also got
good starts but both failed to deliver and were out after scoring 24 and 20 respectively. Yardy remained unbeaten on 60 but lost all his partners when the visitors were bowled-out in the 44th over.
Shaun Tait and Johnson took three wickets each for their team. They got some good support from Jason Krejza, who took two wickets during the match.
Voges was named man-of-the-match and Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 was awarded with player-of-the-series following his all-round performance throughout the previous encounters.
Both Australia and England will be heading to the World Cup next, which will kick-off from 19th February. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has once again proved to all opponents that they remain a huge threat and they are still the number one ranked team in ODI cricket.
