Worries for England continued as they lost the third consecutive match in the seven-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia. The match was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and the home team leads the series by 3-0 after winning
the match.
The wicket looked excellent for batting and the English captain decided to bat first after winning the toss.
The start wasn’t good enough for the visitors as they expected. Matt Prior was dismissed in the very first over without scoring. Prior was brought-in the team at the expense of Steve Davies. However, he has proved to be a wrong choice so far as this was
his second duck in two matches against Australia.
Andrew Strauss was also not able to convert his start to a big innings. He was dismissed after scoring 23 runs. The problems for England continued as wickets kept on falling regularly.
Eoin Morgan stayed at the crease for a while and scored 30 runs. However, he wasn’t able to capitalize on his start and was dismissed at a very wrong time. Some resistance came from Luke Wright as he managed 32 runs.
The star of the show for the visitors was Jonathan Trott as he remained unbeaten on 85 for his team. Trott didn’t get any support from his team-mates and the English team was dismissed in the 48th over after scoring 214 runs.
The return for Brett http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382 has been a good one and his team will be hoping that he can carry his form in the World Cup. Lee took three wickets in the match. The returning left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty also grabbed the opportunity with both hands and took
two wickets in his spell.
The hosts didn’t get an ideal start either as they also kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. The wicketkeeper batsman, Brad Haddin kept on playing his shots without bothering about the wickets falling at the other end. He ended-up with a quick-fire
54 runs off 59 balls.
The fall of Haddin gave hope to the visitors as Australia were 100 for 5 at that stage. David Hussey was joined at the crease by Steve Smith. The pair took the team out of trouble with a 63-run partnership.
Hussey guided his team to victory in the 46th over. He remained uneaten on 68 and got good support from the lower middle-order. John Hastings was also unbeaten on 18 runs and was involved in a 50-run stand with Hussey.
The English team wasn’t able to defend the total they posted and after some early wickets, the bowlers didn’t have any answer to Hussey’s batting. Paul Collingwood and Chris Tremlett took two wickets each in the match.
The Australian pace-ace Brett Lee was named as the player-of-the match after his superb spell of bowling.
