John Hastings produced a splendid bowling spell and took a hat-trick at the crucial stage as Australia beat Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI by 90 runs in a warm up match played at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium, Fatullah on April 7, 2011.
Earlier, Australia posted 308 runs in their allotted 50 overs for the loss of six wickets. Ricky Ponting was their highest scorer with 69 runs, Brad Haddin contributed 66 runs as Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and Michael Hussey chipped in with 56 and 52 respectively.
Shuvagoto Hom took two wickets as Dolar Mahmud, Mahbubul Alam and Farhad Reza shared a wicket each from BCB XI.
The start of the BCB XI was horrible as they lost both their openers, Mithun Ali, and, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rony-Talukder-c86822 with the total on just 12 runs. Both scored six runs each.
Mitchell Johnson struck an early blow to BCB XI by taking both wickets. Maisuqur Rehman and Captain Raqibul Hasan took over and displayed fine batting. They saw off the new ball and consolidated the innings. The pair completed their well crafted 100 runs
partnership in the 28th over.
Maisuqur and Raqibul posted well deserved fifties against the strong Australian bowling with style and each of them punched 4 fours in between their innings. The pair held their ends solid like a rock at that stage as Australia tried to dislodge them.
The 149 runs partnership was accumulated in the 36th over before John Hastings started his magical spell of fast bowling. He bowled Raqibul on the third ball of 36th over once he contributed 65 runs.
Alok Kapali was declared leg before wicket (lbw) on the fourth ball and Shuvagoto was lbw on the fifth ball of the same over as he achieved the hat-trick. All three wickets fell with the total at 161 runs and put the BCB XI firmly on the back foot, as Maisuqur
soon fell with the total at 166 when he had crafted 68 runs.
Australia’s bowling came into its own and restricted them to 218 runs in 50 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Mahmudul Hasan and Farhad Reza were the not out batsmen at 18 and 19 respectively.
Hastings was the star performer for Australia with four wickets. Johnson held two wickets as Xavier Doherty claimed a wicket as well.
Australia opened the tour on a positive note by winning the match with a margin of 90 runs and will expect similar achievements in the upcoming three encounters against Bangladesh’s national side starting from April 9, 2011, at Dhaka.
