Australia defeats China by 3-1: 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
The Australian and Chinese men’s national volleyball team met each other on September 26 in the Azadi Hall No. 1 in Tehran, Iran for a Pool F match of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship that was part of the 1-8 classification round of the
tournament. The four set matchup ended with the Australians bagging themselves a win.
The first set of the match was lost by Australia as the Chinese showed a better set of volleyball skills but the Australians stepped up their game to come out strong in the second as well as the third sets of the game. The Chinese gave the Australians some
tough competition in both sets that they lost but their play seemed to slow down in the fourth set as the Australians secured an easy win to clinch the match at the following final set scores: 22-25, 27-25, 25-23 and 25-18.
The initial set of the match saw the Chinese take a lead early on at 7-0 that put immediate pressure on the Australians. The Chinese attackers were doing a commendable job of making the ball land home on the Australian side of the court and it took some
time for the Australians to step up their defence to stop the Chinese onslaught. However, the Chinese still managed to maintain their lead. The Chinese player, Chen Ping, played an important part in keeping the gap between his team and the Australians comfortable.
As the set progressed, the Australians were able to close in the gap at 24-22 but the Chinese eventually secured the opening set of the game at 25-22.
The Chinese were able to come out strong in the second set as well as the momentum generated by the recent win propelled them towards a 6-3 lead. The Chinese attackers were about to go on another hitting spree but the Australian blockers managed to contain
the threat and make the match reach a tie at 8-8. The match took on competitive tones as neither team was willing to let the others take advantage. However, it was the Australians who were successful in bagging a win at 27-25.
The third set of the match followed the same pattern as the second as both teams were battling hard for a win. No side could keep the lead with itself for a long period of time. However, as the frame drew to its close, the Australians were seen to emerge
with a win at 25-23.
The Australians started off the fourth set in a dominating fashion and did not rest until they had a win at 25-18.
