Australia defeats Korea by 2-1 in Four-Nation Berlin Hockey Cup
The Women’s hockey team of Australia edged past Korea by 2-1 in the final contest of the Four-Nation Hockey Cup that took place in Berlin, Germany.
The Hockeyroos demonstrated splendid show-off, scored a couple of goals against the single of their rivals, and won the game. With victory in the final game, the Australian women secured the 3rd position in the event.
Adam Commens, the chief coach of the Women’s hockey team of Australia, while speaking to the media, said that it was great show where they had created numerous opportunities.
He stated, “It was a very good performance for the majority of the match. In what was a far more composed defensive effort, Korea struggled for chances, while we created many. Whilst we did not score many goals there was significant progress in how we generated
attacks and the positions we got into the circle.”
Following a defeat in the hands of Germany, it was a great comeback from the Australian team that scored two goals and managed the third place in the event. Despite the fact the Hockeyroos notched two goals, they made plenty of penetrations and created chances
for goals. However, their conversion rate was quite slow. But at the same time, the Australian women showed splendid defence and kept the Korean strikers at bay.
Korea and Australia, the two teams, commenced the game quite professionally and exchanged well-organised shots in the early minutes. However, it was the Hockeyroos that drew the first blood in the 6th minute of the game. Emily Hurtz managed to
take the ball at the top of the circle and unleashed a sneaking shot into the Korean goal.
Following the first goal, the Hockeyroos started to play more offensively and carried numerous strikes against Koreans. They made sixteen penetrations in the first 35 minutes of play. However, they could only score once in the period. The first half of play
ended with Australian women sitting on the top by a single goal, 1-0.
The Korean attack came alive in the second half and tied the knots in the very early minutes of the game. In the 41st minute of the game, Kim Da Rae scored a goal and had it all even at 1-1. However, the Hockeyroos were not ready to give-up. Megan
Rivers scored a goal in the 57th minute of the match and regained the solitary goal edge. They did not allow the opponent side for an equaliser in the remaining time-period and won the game at 2-1.
It was a Four-Nation warm-up series organised in connection with preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy that is scheduled to be held from June 25 to July 03, 2011 in Amsterdam.
