Australia defeats USA in the Four Nations Women Field Hockey Tournament 1-0
The Australian team beat the USA in the Four Nations Women Field Hockey Tournament by 1-0 in Mendoza, Argentina. The USA has suffered two losses in a row after Thursday night’s match against Argentina.
The Australian team was held back during the first-half of the match, as the USA team did not allowing many chances for them to score. In the second-half, a goal was shot in the last minutes of the match, making it impossible for the US team to answer back
in time. The match finished with a 1-0 score as the Australian women walked away victorious, leaving the US team disappointed of their failure for a second time.
In the first-half, the US was unable to post a goal as the Australian defence proved to be too strong. Last night, the Australian’s managed to hold the world number one team, Argentina from scoring a goal in the second-half.
The US team’s head coach, Lee Bodimeade said last night, “It’s always going to be tough against the World Champions. Argentina had a big crowd and we made some poor errors that we paid the price for. We played a lot better in the second half and we’re much
happier with the way we were able to finish the game.”
During the match with Australia, Jackie Kintzer of the US, suffered a minor injury when she got tangled with an Australian player. Kintzer managed to finish the game.
The coach commented that the team performed well against a quality contender of the tournament, but it is disappointing that they could not end up with a win. He further went on to say that the coming match against Germany on Saturday is a decent opportunity
to progress as individuals and as a team. This seven week programme is paving the way towards the US team’s improvement for the upcoming Pan American Games and playing Germany is a huge step in that direction.
It will be interesting to see how the US team manages to recover from their losses and begin working on their performance for future matches.
