Australia dominates ICC Cricketer of the Year long list
The ICC have released their long list for the 2010 Cricketer of the Year, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, South Africa and India featuring heavily among the 16-player list.
Somewhat surprisingly, given England’s increasing prowess across all three formats of the game, no England player has been nominated for the prestigious award, which was last year won by Aussie paceman Mitchell Johnson.
Johnson has again made the list this year (though one has to doubt whether he’s done enough over the past 12 months to claim the honour two years running), along with Australia teammates Doug Bollinger, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, Ryan Harris, Ricky Ponting, and Shane Watson.
South Africa has five players in contention for the award, with Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morne-Morkel-c77722, Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers all named on the long list.
Sachin Tendulkar leads http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s long list nominations, which also include Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virender Sehwag.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 captain and beating heart Daniel Vettori complete the long list, which is set to be trimmed at some point before the October 6th awards ceremony.
Along with England, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the West Indies are the Test nations not to have had a player named on the long list for the award, although all except the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 paceman Mohammad Aamer are also among the preliminary nominations.
The awards are based on the players’ performances between August 24th 2009 and August 10th 2010, a timeframe that has included the 2009 Champions Trophy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and the 2010 World Twenty20 in the Caribbean.
