Australia dominates Russia by 68-22 in Rugby World Cup Pool C encounter
Australia went for an all out effort to thrash the Russians by a large difference of 68-22 on October 1 in Nelson. Wallabies’ players scored 10 tries to end their group campaign in an impressive way. Berrick Barnes and Drew Mitchell played a vital role in
the victory as they helped their side with two tries each. Ben McCalman, Adam Ashley-Cooper and James O’Connor also did a remarkable job for the Wallabies.
O’Connor was almost flawless with his foot work while kicking the conversion goals. He kicked nine out of 10 conversion goal scoring opportunities to elevate his team with 18 individual points. Quade Cooper, the kick specialist for Australia, was not given
the kicking role after an unimpressive start in the global showpiece.
Meanwhile, Russia managed to score three tries despite the strong looking defence of the Aussies. Vladimir Ostroushko opened the account for Russia in the 32nd minute of the match after a nervous start.
Australia were off the mark in the match very quickly as they made attacks right from the beginning and remained successful in discovering the loop holes of their opponents lines. Wallabies scored seven tries just before the interval and took a mighty lead
of 47-5 after the end of the first-half.
The second part of the game was not as productive for the winners as was the first but still they added 21 points to their total. Australia has retained their top spot position at the point’s tables with a bonus point victory over Russia.
