Hi.

Okay, I'm trying to find a city and a part of the country in Australia where it is rainy, but not all the time, hot, but not dry, and somewhere close to the ocean.

Also, are their seasons different than ours? like, is our summer their winter and vice-versa?

Thanks!

  1. It's called Melbourne. Although Geelong might just scrape in as big enough to be called a City as well. They are what you describe. They have miserable weather and are near the Great Ocean Road.

  2. Our seasons are the opposite time of the year to the northern hemisphere.

Summer starts on the 1st of December

Autumn starts on the 1st of March

Winter starts on the 1st of June

Spring starts on the 1st of September.

We are in the last week of Autumn right now.

Our cities in the tropics fit your description:

rainy during the "wet season", dry during the "dry season"

(the "wet season" goes from November to April)

(the "dry season" May to October is when it doesn't pour with rain every afternoon)

    warm to hot all year

    and close to the ocean

Examples are cities such as Darwin in the Northern Territory also Townsville and Cairns in Far North Queensland.

  3. haha! rain!....thats a good one

  4. User Elizabeth said it all - she's so great at giving advice!!

Cairns - Far North Queensland, I know because I live here.

    Cheers

  5. Try Cairns, its rainy over summer, hot - warm all year round, dry heat not humidity, and right on the ocean.

You wont get 'hot' weather in Victoria or Tasmania.

Yes our seasons are opposite and also start at the beggining on the month not on the soltice.

    Summer 1 Dec - 28/29 Feb

    Autumn (fall) 1 Mar - 31 May

    Winter 1 June - 31 Aug

    Spring 1 Sept - 30 Nov

  6. Warrnambool is a town at the west end of the GOR.  Lorne and Torquay are at the eastish end, and Port Fairy is somewhere in the middle.

Are you looking for the name of a specific town, or a town that fits your general description?

  7. well I'd suggest Launceston in Tasmania but thats not on the great ocean road... it's in a different state in fact!!

Try Torquay in Victoria, it's next to the beach, near the great ocean road... although i don't know what the weather is like. I know that it is 10 degrees celcius there now but it is winter.

Are you in America? well if you are, our winter is in your summer and vice versa

    =)

  8. If you want hot but not dry and rainy sometimes you're probably best to go somewhere in the northern part of Australia such as Queensland.

The Great Ocean Road is in the south so one of the coolest areas of Australia and is dry a lot of the time (although it can be hot in the summer)- so it's not really the kind of weather you're looking for. Geelong is probably the closest "city" to here (although I'm not sure what your standards of a city are)- there are other smaller towns like Warnambool, Torquay, etc. along the way.

  9. The Great Ocean Road and surrounds is probably one of the coolest areas in Australia, so it will probably be as hot as you are looking for. The nearest city to the Great Ocean Road is Geelong.

For warmer weather, and close to the ocean I would suggest Cairns or Townsville in Queensland. It is rainy up there in the wet season, but the other half of the year is pretty dry, and it is warm to hot all year round.

  10. The part of Australia that best describes " rainy, but not all the time, hot, but not dry, and somewhere close to the ocean" is the coast of Queensland from about Bundaberg north. That includes Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, Bowen,Townsville and Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef stretches north between Bundaberg in the south to the north of Cairns, so it's a magnificent part of the world with warm crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, palm trees and everything else you imagine about the tropics.

Unfortunately, they're nowhere near the Great Ocean Road which is on the south coast of Victoria in a much cooler part of Australia and 1300 or so miles from Bundaberg and at least 2300 miles from Cairns.

Because Australia is in the southern hemisphere, our summer is at the end of the year and our winter in the middle of the year so it's the opposite to the northern hemisphere. We spend Christmas in the pool or on the beach and our long school vacation is in Dec/Jan because that's summer. BTW, the Queensland places I've mentioned only have the hot/wet season and the (a little) cooler/drier season. The 4 seasons don't really apply in the tropics.

  11. Well the best would be Darwin in the NT all you get is the dry season (which is very popular with the tourists) and you get the wet season which rains alot but not all day and Darwin is on the Ocean.
