  1. Yes, he will find it difficult indeed to get a one-year working visa.

There is a one -year (well, 13 months actually) "young persons working holiday visa" available, but that is restricted to those aged 18-30. Very exceptional circumstances might allow a 34 year old to get one, but it is doubtful.

There are various visas available for persons having a skill that Australia needs, but again I doubt that a digger driver would qualify as "skilled"

Don't forget that without a work visa you could not work either.

Follow this link to the very informative government site and take it from there:

  2. Apart from working holiday visas, work visas are only available to workers in listed occupations in which workers are in demand in Australia and unfortunately for your boyfriend, his occupation is not one of those listed. At 34, he is over the age 30 cutoff for a working holiday visa.

Here are the listed jobs and other information in case I missed something or in case he's qualified for something else that's on there, but if not, he will find it impossible to come here and work.

  3. They are looking to get people from the UK who are skilled but will take mininal wage.  Your first stop would be the australain embassy to discuse visas etc.

This would be a great trip and one to tell the grandkids so I wish you the best of luck with your plans and I hope they work out.  I think the hardest thing will be coming back lol

  4. I went for seven weeks , the travel agent got my Visa for me .its so hard now to get a work permit to work in australia,,phone australia house up they will advise you ..
