Australia give England a mammoth total of 391 to win at WACA
Mike Hussey has performed phenomenally in this Ashes series as he scored a spectacular hundred to take Australia to 309. Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 could not convert yet another fifty plus score into a hundred as he succumbed for 95. England was persistent as Tremlett
took his career best figures of 8 for 150 in a match. Swann did not seem as potent as he was at Adelaide and could not make much of an impact.
It was however http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 that came out on top at the end of the innings as they posted a total of 309, with a lead of almost 400 runs. Their bowlers have performed exceptionally well and it would be expected that they will be able to bowl the English team
out in the next two days of play. With his century, Michael Hussey has now become the leading run scorer in the series and has also become the first player in the history of Ashes to have scored six consecutive fifty plus scores in a series.
Hussey reached his hundred with a swashbuckling pull shot that ran to the boundary for a four. While England bowlers were targeting the Australian batsmen with short pitched deliveries, these deliveries hardly seemed to have an impact on Husey who was playing
them with ease.
Mitchell Johnson could not repeat his heroics from the first innings as he played a rather unnecessary shot straight to Ian Bell at short cover. The bowlers did not offer Hussey much support as he was left as a lone warrior to fight against the Englishmen.
It was eventually Tremlett who got the better of Hussey with a short pitched delivery which the latter attempted to pull only to be caught by Swann at deep midwicket. Mike Hussey’s innings could be the decisive innings for the match and much would be expected
Mitchell Johnson in the bowling department.
His bowling left England in tatters in the first innings and if he can repeat his performance in the second innings then Australia would be able to make a comeback in the Ashes. Ricky Ponting would certainly not want to have three Ashes series defeats under
his belt while the Englishmen would be looking to post their first ever series win in Australia after 23 years.
