Australia hunts new bowling coach
Australia is on the hunt for a new bowling coach after it was revealed current chief Troy Cooley will take over at the Centre of Excellence.
Cooley is one of the most experienced bowling coaches in the world. He coached England's bowlers during the successful 2005 Ashes campaign. He then went back to Australia and coached his home nation when
they won back the urn in 2006/07.
Some are suggesting that this is hardly the ideal preparation for Australia's tour of India and the big winter series against England. However, Cooley has said that he's delighted to take up his new job.
Australia has to hunt hard for the right person to come in as bowling coach. It must be someone with experience and someone who is available. Any major delays in the decision could have an impact on the
games of bowlers over the next two or three months.
The qualities needed
Australia is going to be looking for a coach that has plenty of energy and determination. It's also very important that the person coming in has a lot of experience coaching at international level. These
are mandatory requirements for any Australian coach.
The person has to be a very good man manager. There are bowlers in the Australian side such as Mitchell Johnson and Ben Hilfenhaus who allow their heads to drop when things are not going according to plan.
Most importantly any individual that Cricket Australia approaches has to be available. It would be very naive of cricket officials in Australia to try and persuade someone to leave the current contract
they have with another domestic or international side.
A Cricket Australia statement said: "CA will be working to replace Troy as pace-bowling coach as soon as practicable after further discussions with [head coach] Tim Nielsen and an assessment of current
needs in this area."
The Ashes
Australia needs clear decisions and news over who is going to be the bowling coach for the Ashes series this winter. If there are any crossed wires over who will be doing the job, then the bowlers in the
team could start playing badly.
At present it seems Cooley will provide an advisory role to the bowlers. This will cover the danger of there being no experienced bowling coach present during the tour of India and the home series against
England.
This is a risky approach for Cricket Australia to take because it will be impossible for Cooley to focus on huge international events when he is preparing to start a new job. The better approach is to
get a replacement through the door as quickly as possible.
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 chief executive Michael Brown added: "Troy will continue to support the Australian team throughout the Ashes Test series and the World Cup campaign. In Troy Cooley we have a coach and
talent manager with an impeccable record."
Betting advice
The Ashes series this winter is very difficult to call. England has the success and the form heading into the series but Australia never plays badly when the team is at home.
Back England to win the series 2-1 at this moment in time. However, watch how Australia plays during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. Watch the bowlers closely and see if there is a lack of direction in the game of
the people leading the Australian attack.
If the bowlers in the Australian team are suffering because there is no permanent bowling coach in charge then England will cash in on this. However, there is enough quality in the Australian attack for
any Test match bowler to take five wickets in a game.
