Australia in West Indies 2012: 3rd ODI - Match Preview
Having levelled the five-match One Day International series against Australia at 1-1, an upbeat West Indian team is all set to play the tourists in the third One Day international of the series at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St. Vincent today, March
20,2012.
Australia won the series opener convincingly by a 64-run margin. In the second match http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869’s right-arm spin, and Kieron Pollard’s late blitz steered the Windies to a five-wicket win over the tourist, their first victory over the Aussies in six years.
Having broken the jinx, the Windies will be looking forward to winning their first one-day series win over the Kangaroos in more than a decade. West Indies last won a one-day series against Australia in 1995.
Although the West Indian bowlers have performed exceptionally well in the opening two games of the ODI series, batting remains a cause for concern for the hosts. The opening duo of Kieran Powell and Johnson Charles failing to provide the side with a solid
foundation in both the one-dayers played so far. Charles got a start in Sunday’s match but failed to capitalise, throwing away his wicket while attempting a needless and careless run off a mis-field.
The middle-order has not been impressive either, with the batsmen playing carelessly after getting starts. The Windies batsmen will have to learn to capitalise on their starts if they are to win the series. Only Kieron Pollard has shown maturity in his shot
selection, and will have to bat the same way in the remaining games.
The Australian batsmen are also struggling to get it going on the slow Caribbean tracks. Most of the players in the Australian line-up are touring the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978,
who is recovering from a hamstring injury, and the batting veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 have also failed to convert their starts into significant
scores.
The pace bowling arsenal of the tourists, featuring the likes of experienced Brett Lee and youngsters Clint McKay and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308, look very solid. They do not have many spin options. Xavier Doherty did click for the visitors but at the same time he
has been expensive.
