Australian legend David Campese believes England should attack the Wallabies backs
Australian legend David Campese believes that England must attack the Wallabies back line and not just target the scrum and forward battle.
England take on Australia at Twickenham in their second Test of the Autumn Internationals on Saturday 13 November.
Campese believes that England should target the Australian backs, which is the Wallabies strength.
The former Australian wing told BBC Radio Five Live, "Our backline is our strength and the best thing to do is attack teams at their strength. Don't attack their weakness because their strength is still there.”
Campese stated that if England believe that they have talented backs like Ben Foden and Toby Flood then they should use the backs to put pressure on the Australian back line rather than just trying to dominate the forwards.
“If England have got a good backline they have to stand up and be counted,” added the former Wallabies international.
The Australian suggested that Wales had fallen into the same trap when they met in last weekend’s 16-25 Test match defeat.
Wales dominated the game up front, but failed to threaten Australia’s back line despite the Welsh side having a wealth of talented backs like Shane Williams and James Hook.
"That's great, but Wales beat Australia in the scrum last week and still lost. They can't say, 'We have let that one go. We are better but we didn't win'."
Campese said that England must back up their talk off dominating Australia in the scrum by winning on Saturday.
"Rugby is about winning, it is not about how good you are off the field at talking it up. It is about getting out there and performing," said Campese.
Australia will go into the match as favourites for the Test against England who must stop the likes of Quade Cooper and Matt Giteau if they are to win.
