The Proteas will travel Down Under later this month to take on the Aussies in what is expected to be a mouth watering contest between two cricketing giants. It will be the team’s first assignment since becoming the new no.1 Test side in the world following their victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in July-August.
Arthur is pretty familiar with many of the South African players, whom he coached during his successful stint with the Proteas national team. His current task however, is to plot their downfall after taking over a similar role with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
With the pitches offering extra bounce and carry, Arthur is pretty certain regarding the strength of either team, which relies on their pace batteries. For the Proteas, the responsibility will be shared between Steyn, Morkel and Philander, all of whom have been in great form over the past 12 months. Together, they have formed a formidable alliance, aiding the team’s cause through their own unique style of bowling.
However, beyond that the team lacks firepower, especially given the absence of youngster Marchant de Lange (back strain), who has been replaced by the uncapped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692’ medium-pace offers an alternate but the team’s overreliance on the top three could prove detrimental if anyone breaks down during the series. Arthur however, says that his team will be ready to pounce on any such misfortune.
"It certainly can be a help for us, if we can get those guys back and having to bowl third and fourth spells then we're in a good position," Arthur told ESPNcricinfo. "That might fatigue them just a little for the next Test match.
"They've got the three top guys, Kleinveldt and then Kallis, but they're very clear on the team they're going to play, and they're just looking at who best can slot in as a like for like replacement if any of their quicks go down."
The first Test will be played at Brisbane from November 9th.
