What is the minimum wage and the average wage for a general labourer? I am thinking of doing a working holiday visa there for a month or two. i am a 21 yr old male and something like a hands on labourer would be the best for me. What kind of job could i get and what kind of money could i make? maybe a part-time job or whatever i could get.

  1. Hey,

In central Qld you'd be able to get a job fruit picking, like they've already mentioned above.. That's about $15.00 an hour.. So it's not too bad, early starts, so early finishes. That will leave you time to interact with all us s**y Aussies. Other than that there is always work going around here.

    Kirst, Qld Australia.

  2. Mel suggested $1000 week for a labourer, thats wrong ?

It only applies to southern states of Australia Victoria & NSW, Queensland wages are lower for labourers $18 hr gross would be about $800 - 1000 net pay about $600- 700 for a 50 - 60 hr week

  3. Labourers in Australia get good money, many taking home $1000 a week after tax.

Have you got any experience or qualifications? Being here for only a few months you wont be able to do an apprenticeship. Apprentices get **** money though, around half the income of their fully qualified counterparts.

Perhaps fruit picking would suit you.

EDIT - Well I'm from NSW like you said, here $1000 is the norm, why do QLD pay so much less?

  4. depending on the type of work minimum would be $500 for 40hr week Gross
