Cricket Australia selectors have opted against a four-pronged pace attack, keeping left-arm seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, starting in Hobart on Friday, December 14, 2012.
Johnson, 31, was named in the 12-man squad for the Hobart Test, but lost his place in the final eleven in the wake of recalls for right-arm pacemen Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle.
The seamers’ duo was rested for the third and final Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at WACA, Perth, earlier this month in a bid to manage their workload after the pair had toiled in the scorching heat of Adelaide for a combined 117.2 overs during the preceding drawn Test.
The left-arm fast bowler hailing from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 Starc filling the third seamer's spot in the attack, Johnson will take on the 12th man duties.
It would be definitely a tough call for Johnson who was the pick of the Australian bowlers during the 309-run crushing at the hands of the Proteas, returning with figures of 6 for 164.
Australian skipper Michael Clarke admitted it had been a tough choice between Johnson and Starc, and backed the left-arm Queenslander to bounce back from the setback.
"Obviously it's a tough selection trying to cut 12 down to 11, especially with the way that Johnson performed in Perth. Mitchell would feel unlucky, there's no doubt about that," said Australian captain Michael Clarke at the pre-match media interaction on the eve of the Hobart Test.
"But I've been saying that it's a nice problem to have to have 12 blokes who want to play and have performed well. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daryl-Mitchell-c52533 will be fine and continue to work his backside off and wait for another opportunity and when that comes grab it with both hands," he added further.
