Australia set a decent total in the first Twenty20 match against England
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 won the toss and elected to bat first against England in the first Twenty20 match played at Adelaide. The home team set a very decent total and capitalized on the solid opening partnership.
David Warner and Shane Watson started the innings for Australia and both the batsman smashed the bowlers to all parts of the park. The pair was batting at 10 runs per over when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 finally lost his wicket to some clever bowling by Michael Yardy.
Watson had done the damage though, as he scored 59 out of the total 83 run partnership with Warner. The next wicket to fall was that of Warner who scored 30 runs in his innings.
The newly appointed captain of the Australian Twenty20 side, Cameron White failed to make an impression in the match as he was out without troubling the scorers too much. White became the first victim of the debutant Chris Woakes in Twenty20 cricket.
David Hussey then gave some momentum to the innings with his cameo but he also got out after getting 28 runs. After that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 and Steve smith took the total to 157 until the end of 20 overs.
Yardy took two wickets for England whereas Tim Bresnan and Woakes took one wicket each in the match. The major disappointment for England was their leading off-spinner Graeme Swann. He gave away 40 runs in his four overs and remained wicket-less in the match.
The Australian team will be happy with the overall batting performance but they will be a touch disappointed with the batting collapse in the middle of the innings. The openers were batting at 10 runs per over until the first eight overs.
Considering that start, Australia would have liked to score more than 170 runs. However, the Australian team has the bowling strength to defend this total posted by their batsmen. If Brett Lee and Shaun Tait can pick up some early wickets in the innings,
England will be under pressure.
On the other hand, the English team will be confident of chasing down this total as they have a strong batting line-up with players like Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan.
