AUS 157/4 20 overs
Australia has set England a formidable total in the first T20 match of the two match series.
The new Australian T20 captain Cameron White won the toss and batted first. Openers Shane Watson and David Warner were in top gear from the outset smashing England’s bowling attack in the opening overs of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, who was one of the few Australian batsmen to have hit his strides in the Test match series against their bitter rivals, was on a rampage again as he smashed the ball all around the park, scoring his runs at a breakneck speed.
The all-rounder from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 smashed 24 runs off one over from off-spinner Graeme Swann. The ball was sent out of the park thrice by him in the over with one of the mammoth sixes sailed 95 meters and landed into the adoring crowd.
He was dismissed in the next over by left arm spinner Michael Yardy. Watson scored 59 runs off 31 balls hitting 6 fours besides the 3 sixes he hit in the Swann over.
David Warner blazed his way to 30 off 28 balls. His innings included 5 fours. The left hander was subdued compared to Watson and was also dismissed by Yardy with the total on 92.
Cameron White failed in his first game as Aussie captain, as young pacer, Chris Woakes, had him caught by Kevin Pietersen for 6 runs.
The third wicket fell with the total on 115. David Hussey held the middle part of the innings together scoring a 27-ball 28. He was dismissed by Tim Bresnan.
Debutant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 and Steven Smith were the ones who took the Australians past the 150 mark. Smith played some adventurous strokes at the end of the innings while Finch was tied down scoring 15 runs off 14 balls with the help of one four.
Smith was unbeaten on 15 off 11 balls. His innings included a stunning four which was more like a reverse flick over third man, who was placed inside the circle by English captain, Paul Collingwood.
For the English team Yardy claimed two, while Woakes and Bresnan claimed a wicket each, over all the tourists would be happy at restricting the Australians to a total that they have a decent chance of overhauling.
