Australia should not be written-off from ICC World Cup 2011: Danny Morrison
Former New Zealand fast bowler Danny Morrison believes that the Australians cannot be written-off from the ICC World Cup 2011 as they are playing smart cricket by taking their time even against the weaker teams and not rushing for victories.
Morrison said, “It is not a sprint race, it is a long tournament. They are building up slowly, preventing injuries and keeping their players fresh for the challenges in the knock-out stage.”
The former paceman hinted at both victories of the Kangaroos in their first two matches of the World Cup against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. He said that both were weaker opponents, but the defending world champions played sensible cricket against them rather
than being ultra aggressive.
Many former players and cricket experts claimed that Australia would not be able to win the title for the fourth consecutive time after their inconsistent performances in 2010.
The Kangaroos had a mixed year and were also hurt by several injury problems. The worst of all for them was the 2010-11 Ashes series defeat and Michael Hussey’s omission from the mega event due to an injury.
However, Morrison claimed that writing-off Australia would be a terrible mistake. He further stated that the defending world champions were fully motivated to win in the Subcontinent and repeat history.
Australia have made it to the final of the previous two World Cups held in the Subcontinent in 1987 and 1996. However, the Kangaroos managed to win the title in 1987 and were the runner-ups in 1996 to Sri Lanka.
The real challenge for Australia will be against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 as they are the two teams expected to play well on Asian soil. Both teams will be up against each other in their second match of the tournament on Saturday and will play Australia later
in their group matches.
According to Morrison, Australia’s bowling will be tested against the Asian giants in batting friendly conditions. The pace attack of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has been terrific in the first two games, but the bowlers have been lucky as many of the batsmen gifted their
wickets to them.
