Australia thump Barbarians by 60-11 in Twickenham test – Rugby News
Australia trounced Barbarians by a monstrous difference of 60-11 with the help of eight tries, on November 26, at Twickenham. Wallabies proved too strong for the rusty Barbarians and outclassed them in every part of the game. Digby Ioane, Lachie Turner and
James Horwill scored two tries each for Australia to make the splendid total. Their fly-half James O’Connor displayed an excellent show of footwork and kicked seven conversions, two penalties and a drop goal in the clash and remained the highest scorer for
his team.
Barbarians cut a sorry figure in the encounter and could not change their loosing lot against Wallabies. During the match, Barbarians, looked off colour and made only empty runs into the field. They had enjoyed very little ball possession as Wallabies pushed
them on to the back foot since the start of game.
Barbarians provided the rivals an early opportunity of taking the lead as they were penalised only in the second minute. James O’Connor responded to the chance and put his side on the board with 3-0. This proved to be the first drop of rain for Wallabies
as they looked unstoppable as the match went on. Couple of tries in the last 20 minutes of first half helped them to a reasonable lead of 18-3 at interval. Digby Ioane and Lachie Turner scored one try in the first part. Meanwhile, Barbarians scored only one
three pointer with the help of ex English fly-half Danny Cipriani.
Second half proved devastating for the Barbarians as their poor defence was exposed to the Wallabies, who exploited it to the maximum. Wallabies added 42 points in the last 30 minute of the second half and conceded only eight. They did not given the Barbarians
any chance of bouncing back into the match and kept them busy in their own half.
Wallabies scored six more tries in the second half and left the opposition l*****g their wounds as they sealed a comfortable victory of 60-11 with the huge difference of 49 points.
