Australia to announce a national holiday if Cadel Evans wins: Cycling News
Ed Husic, the Australian Federal Member of Parliament, said on July 21, that he can push for a national holiday if Cadel Evans wins this year’s Tour de France, which is currently underway.
Evan’s performed well on a difficult descent off the Col de Manse, which gained him three seconds ahead of Alberto Contador and helped him improve his position by 21 seconds in the overall classification. His bold move at the fall cost Andy Schleck to lag
behind by 1 minute and 9 seconds.
Husic admired his performance as he said, "Someone like Cadel, when you think of all those hours that he’s put in and the mental hurdles he’s gone through, I’m just a big fan of people doing well overseas- particularly in tough sports like that.”
Husic showed his regard for the cyclist as he said that all Australians should never forget the hard-work Evans has done, no matter if we go to work on Monday or even if it’s a national holiday.
Cadel won the fourth stage in this year’s Tour de France, during the stretch of 172 kilometres stage from Lorient to Mur-de-Bretagne. Alberto Contador was second, while Alexandre Vinokhurov was at the third position. He managed to finish the race first,
despite of some mechanical problem, but he recovered soon.
He was also the winner of King of Mountains classification and wore the polka dot jersey and at the end of stage 4 and stage 5.
Cadel is positive as he gets ready for 200.5-kilometre 18th stage from Galibier-Serre Chevalier with high mountains to travel.
The Australian is at number two spot after stage 17 in overall classifications and behind the race leader, Thomas Voeckler. Evans leads Andy Schleck by 9 seconds and is 17 seconds behind his brother Frank.
Stuart O’ Greddy, who is the captain for Schleck’s team Leopard Trek, believes that Cadel has more chances of winning the tour than the Schleck’s as he said, “This is Cadel’s biggest chance to win the Tour, Good luck to him and his (BMC) boys.”
He further added that Schleck brothers could not perform as good as expected and did not have any impact on Cadel in the Pyrenees.
