Australia upset China in water polo match: Day five – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
Australia has proved its dominance in the water polo tournament by upsetting China in their fifth match on day five of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), on Thursday, January 12.
The Australians, who have proved themselves hard to beat, has taken out the Chinese national squad with a tremendous win. With their unimaginable skills and noteworthy commitment, the Australians overwhelmed China with a margin of ten goals. The Chinese
suffered their third defeat of the tournament with a score of 13-3 at the hands of Australia.
The Australian squad showed no mercy to their challengers and went rampant in the first quarter of the game. They scored five goals in the first round, out of which two were accomplished by Richie Campbell. On the other hand, Chinese squad failed to add
any goal and the score remained 5-0 after the first round.
The second quarter saw head-to-head efforts of Chinese players, who levelled out all struggles of their opponents. Both teams scored two goals each in second round and the score went to 7-2 after the halftime.
The third quarter was very important for Chinese team because they needed to strengthen their position on the scorecard. The round went almost like the first quarter of the race, where the Chinese failed to notch any goal on their scorecard. Conversely,
the Australians added three goals to their side and the score jumped to 10-2 after the third round.
The fourth quarter started with inevitable victory of Australian players, who managed a stupendous lead of eight goals. The Australians went full throttle in the final round and yet again they scored three goals while the Chinese squad managed to improve
their scorecard by just one goal.
The Australians are going neck-to-neck with USA on the overall rankings list, as they are equal in points but there is a slight discrepancy in their Goal Difference (GD).
Furthermore, Australia is now scheduled to play its next match against New Zealand, which is one of the weakest teams of the tournament and the Aussies will need to beat their opponent with a great difference, if they wish to take over USA on points table.
