Australia upset New Zealand in water polo game: Day six – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
Australian water polo squad has continued their winning streak as the upset New Zealand in their sixth game on day six of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), on Friday, January 13.
After ending in a draw with USA, the Australians have gone wild as they geared up their efforts. They outperform the Kiwis with a substantial difference of seventeen goals. The Aussies grabbed victory with a score of 20-3 in their sixth bout and have reached
the top of Men’s overall points table.
They were a bit slower in the first quarter of the game, where they scored two goals against New Zealand, who scored one goal only. Nevertheless, their efforts ignited in the second quarter, where they scored six goals in a row and blocked all efforts of
New Zealanders. The score went up to 8-1 after the halftime.
Just like the first half, the Aussies gave no room to their opponents and proved their mettle in the second half. They notched up twelve goals in the second half, scoring five goals in third quarter and seven goals in the fourth round. On the other hand,
the Kiwis were able to score one goal each in third and fourth quarter respectively, losing the match ruthlessly from Australians.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed remarkable efforts of Japanese and Brazilian squad, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck battle. Japan remained dominant in the first half, but the Brazilian team elevated their efforts in the second half and managed
to draw the game.
Japan scored three goals in first quarter and six goals in the second quarter while the Brazilians remained successful in scoring four goals in first round and three goals in second quarter. The tables turned in the second half, where Brazilian squad accomplished
seven goals yet again while the Japanese proved successful in scoring five goals only. Both teams scored 14-all and the match ended in a tie.
Furthermore, the crowd was thrilled with the effort of Aussies, who have edged out USA on the overall rankings list, but they have to keep winning, if they want to maintain their position.
