Australia v India: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 rubbishes retirement rumours – Cricket News Update
The veteran Australian batsman, Ricky Ponting, has rubbished all rumours of his retirement from cricket at the end of fourth Test match against India being played at the Adelaide Oval.
The retirement rumours rose after cameramen filmed Punter celebrating his 41st Test hundred in ecstatic jubilation. The 37-year-old brushed aside the speculations, stating that there was nothing unusual about his celebration.
Ponting said, “It was a celebration, I usually do a similar celebration when I score a Test match hundred. I won't be retiring at the end of this Test match.”
On his way to a century, Ponting also crossed another milestone, by becoming the first Australian and third batsman (after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229) to score 13,000 runs in Test cricket. The charismatic batsman accomplished this feat after playing
an unbeaten innings of 137 runs on the opening day of the Adelaide Test.
When asked what motivates him to keep on playing, Ponting said, “Winning Test matches and winning games of cricket for Australia is what motivates me to keep playing. It's never been about making 13,000 or 14,000 runs. It's about doing what I can when it's
required of me to get my team through a certain situation in a game.”
Ponting has been under the radar for some time now. The middle-order batsman was short of runs prior to the series against India but blasted his way back to form by scoring 400 runs at an average of 100.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 (140), the Australian skipper.
The Aussies scored 335 runs on the opening day for the loss of three wickets. The veteran batsman, along with his skipper want to start day two from where they left-off and add more runs, so they take the match away from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s reach.
“It's been a really good day for us and we have to make sure we win the first hour tomorrow and make sure this first innings is a big one,” said Ponting.
