http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 2011: Spinners a huge challenge for Aussie batsmen, feels Cameron White – Cricket News Update
Australia’s Twenty20 skipper, Cameron White, has admitted that the upcoming Test and ODI series against Sri Lankan will be a battle between Lankan spinners and the Australian batting line-up.
White’s comments came after Australia’s two consecutive defeats in the Twenty20 contests.
Failing to resist the quality bowling by the Lankan slow bowlers, the Kangaroos could only manage to amass 149 in reply of Sri Lanka’s total of 158, in the second Twenty20 clash, held at Pallekele Cricket Stadium, on Monday, August 8, 2011.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis’ superb spell proved to be a nightmare for the tourists, as the unorthodox spinner grabbed six for 16, becoming the first bowler to claim a six-wicket haul in the shorter version of the game.
While a lacklustre show against the spinners has emerged as a huge concern for the Aussies, the Twenty20 captain conceded that Australia’s performance in the upcoming clash will determine the new-look team’s capability to tackle spin.
"It`s going to be no different during the one-day series. It`ll be hard and tough work for the batsmen against the spinners. Everyone knows that, it`s no secret and it`s just going to be about who can come out on top at the end of the series," said White
who is heading home since he is not part of Australia’s current ODI and Test setup.
Despite acknowledging Mendis as a huge threat in the ODIs, the flamboyant all-rounder claimed that the tweaker will not be able to produce similar results in the 50-over format, as the Aussies are in a much better position to face him after the inclusion

"A couple of senior players coming back into the side, Michael and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824, have seen a lot of Mendis so they`ll have straight from the start a bit more experience there and I think just the more you get to face guys like that, who you haven`t seen as much,
it becomes easier," added the Victorian cricketer.
The Aussies are due to meet the Islanders in five ODIs, with the first game set to be played on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.
