Australia v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – Will the Aussies surrender or bounce back after their defeat in the third One Day International against Sri Lanka
The former World Champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are certainly not at their best and after ruling the world of cricket for more than a decade the team is finally finding it extremely difficult to live up to its old reputation, nonetheless, the Aussies showed a touch
of their former selves in the first two matches of the ongoing one-day series in Sri Lankan when they left the home side in taters by taking the first two games.
After watching the former skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 in action in the opening matches of the series many Aussie fans must have taken a sigh of relief considering the Australians back to their best, however, their
distasteful show in the third one-day game has left every one guessing whether the side is still capable to putting fear in the hearts of their opponents.
The current Australian outfit is only a shadow of its former self and while the squad still contains former players, the team is still not giving a performance that would convince critics of a resurgence of Australia in the cricket world.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka who were beaten by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 relinquished his captaincy, followed by resignations from
vice captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 and the selection committee.
Nonetheless, the Lankans are still blossoming under the new leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 who is not flourishing
like Dilshan.
With many aging players in the squad, Clarke has little options to choose from. The reason behind Australia’s fall from the number one spot is the fact that they are relying on former players to deliver even when they have passed their prime.
Over the last ten years, Australia had never taken into consideration the big name of the player, it never mattered to the selectors how big a player was, if he was not up to speed there was no room for him in the Australian team.
However, now that has changed and just like many teams of the world the Australian management is more concerned about retaining a star studded squad than to replace it with an outfit of younger guys.
A team cannot survive without the influx of young blood, the Aussies need to show aging players like Ponting, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 the door if they want to rise at the top in the coming years, otherwise the Australians are in for
a long lean patch which will ultimately give a chance to other countries to set the bar so high that it would be difficult for the Australians to jump over.
It will now be interesting to see if the Australians will be able to bounce back in the series against Sri Lanka as the Lankans are extremely difficult to beat at home and the Aussies do not have a good record in that part of the world.
