http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 content with a draw in the third ODI – Cricket News Update
The Australian skipper, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, was content with the outcome of the third One-Day International match against the West Indies played at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He said, “It is a bit of a high feeling considering that we had them six down. Considering how things panned out, it was a good result.”
The five match ODI series between Australia and West Indies is up for grabs, as the third game ended in a draw and the series is now deadlocked with a win apiece.
The game played at St Vincent saw Australia getting bowled out for a meagre total of 220 in 49.5 overs. The tourists were going along nicely at 202 for the loss of five wickets, but lost a cluster of wickets in the last five overs, which hampered the flow
of runs.
Watson, the stand-in skipper in place of the injured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, was not impressed with the way his batsmen played, and urged the top order batsmen to bat with more responsibility. However, the all-rounder was optimistic that the Aussies will overcome
these issues before the next game.
He said, “We lost a lot of wickets towards the end of the innings and we have to improve on this aspect for the next game. When it is a tie, you consider a lot of things but we need to get better in these conditions.”
The West Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, was also in high spirits after the draw. Though, he held that his side should have won the game.
He said, “We believed that we could win today. We bowled well in the final five overs of the Australian innings and we did a good job. The guys played well but we kept losing wickets. Everybody contributed till No.11 and it shows out depth.”
The importance of the next fixture has been heightened with the tie at St Vincent. There is a two day gap between the third and fourth game. The fourth ODI will be played on Friday, March 23 at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
