Australia versus Korea match underway at Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium: Half-time Analysis
The Kookaburras are currently playing against South Korea in the group match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup, being played on the seventh day at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia.
With the opening minutes of the contest, the Kookaburras started off with the field domination through ball possession. The Australian players held the ball under their control and made passes to the centre-forwards, blocking the Korean attackers for the
strike.
In the 8th minute, Timothy Deavin found a gap inside the circle and struck a powerful drag-flick at the Korean goal, opening the score at 1-0. The Korean gaolie had no chance to block the ball.
The Aussies continued their fast game and doubled the lead in the 12th minute in the hands of Mark Paterson. He managed to take the ball at the top of the circle and unleashed a low-flying shot at the goal. The speed of the game continued to further
accelerate with the passage of every minute, as both sides were carrying out attacks.
However, in a matter of three minutes South Korean team was found near the Australian defensive circle, sending a powerful shot in the 15th minute of the game. This effort was easily converted, as the ball moved into the Australian goal within
no time, reducing the lead down to a single goal, 2-1.
With seven minutes on the clock in the first half, the Korean striker namely Young Sung Hoon attempted a shot from inside the circle, but Australia’s Andrew Charter made a quick save to keep his team’s lead.
With one minute remaining, Australia found another chance and this time Glenn Turner made a successful attempt to expand the lead up to two goals, 3-1.
The remaining time period of the game was a battle for the equaliser, but the stiff defence from Australian side made it hard for the Korean team to make it through. The first half of play ended with Australia sitting on top by two score, 3-1. More updates
