I have been offered a transfer from my office in the uk to our office in Australia (Melbourne) and would love to go, but i would like my boyfriend to come with me. We are both civil engineering technicians, would he be able to get a working visa and how long for? how much would this cost approx?

Also we woould like to get married in a year, would we be able to get married there if we were both on working visa's?

  1. you should contact the Australian Embassy in England, they will be able to provide you with detailed info.

so far, what I can tell you is that most of the countries do not give a working permit for bf or gf of expats which are not married. the good thing about Australia is that they do need skilled professionals in some fields, hopefully they do need civil engineers, but can not tell you....  also being an English passport holder, everything must be easier for you guys. Australia is an  awesome country, you should take this chance. Just give the consulate or embassy a call or have a look at their website. Cheers

  2. You really need to contact the embassy or immigration department on the terms of your boyfriend as you should be fine but I'm not sure about getting married over here. A friend of mine has just has so much trouble with all of this because apparently he did it the wrong way. I wont go into it because i will be here all day but i recommend contacting the immigration department regarding your boyfriend and your marriage. He should be able to get a working visa and they vary in the length of time permitted so its best to check with http://www.emigratingtoaustralia.com/ind...

and use there contact page if you need further info, good luck

  3. www.immigrationunit.com is what I was looking at a few weeks ago. Depends what qualifications he's got & experience, but I reckon he would be able to.

  4. If he is under 30 he could get a working holiday visa (although these have some restrictions - check http://www.immi.gov.au )
