Australia vs England – 1st ODI Preview
It’s time for round three of England’s tour of Australia, as the ODI series kicks off on Sunday at MCG. The most important part of their tour was to win the Ashes, and that they did that with distinction, winning the 5 match test series 3-1, with all 3 wins
by an innings. The next phase was the mini 2 match T-20 series and it ended on level terms, restoring some of Australia's pride and offering a reasonable morale boost. Now comes the long and gruelling 7 match ODI series which will determine the victors of
the tour. The first ODI also marks the 40th anniversary of ODI cricket; it was 40 years ago when the same two teams played the first one day international at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Things are quite different now, with flood lights, coloured clothing and
white ball, but the rivalry and competitiveness remains the same between the two old foes.
Australia were demoralised by the defeat in the test series, and would be eager for a vengeful come-back. There are a number of new names in the team, and captain, Ricky Ponting would be hoping that the reinforcements would have a positive effect.
One of the most prominent inclusions in the Australian team is of fast bowler, Brett Lee. The veteran fast bowler called it a day from test cricket to prolong his ODI Career. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382 looked energetic and eager to perform in the two T-20s and should be crucial
for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s chances in the ODIs. Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle have been given a rest for the first game, while left arm pacer, Dougie Bollinger has been included in the team. David Hussey is one man who would be keen to impress as this would be the
final game before the World Cup squad would be announced, for Australia. David has long been under the shadow of his elder brother, Michael Hussey, who has been, by far, the best Australian batsmen for the last couple of years or so. However, David has plenty
to offer himself and he may prove to be a key player on the field.
For England, Kevin Pietersen would be the most important man in the batting line up. It’s interesting to note that Pietersen was dropped from the one day team against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 last year, but the player has worked his way back into the team. While he was
away, Eoin Morgan established himself as one of the most reliable and prolific players in the team. In the bowling attack, Graeme Swann remains the main player. The off-spinner has made himself a permanent fixture in the team in all 3 formats. James Anderson,
the top wicket taker in the Ashes, is back home and would not be back till the 5th ODI. Tim Bresnan is also a key player, with his ability to exploit the new ball.
Given their overall form, England should be the favourites, but, rest assured, the Aussies will put up quite a fight for a come-back.
