Australia vs Sri Lanka – 9th Match Commonwealth Bank series – Update – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to go top

Composed half-centuries from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 propelled Sri Lanka to move to the top of the standings in the ongoing Commonwealth Bank series, after they won the 9th game against Australia by chasing down a record target
at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart, February 24, 2012.
Chasing an imposing 281 set by the host, the Lankan skipper continued in his rich vein of form by scoring a match winning knock of 85. He blazed in the initial phases of his innings, leaving his opening partner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, to only watch and admire
from the non-strikers end.
After managing just 3 in a partnership of 55, Dilshan fell off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 to the crease and the left-hander also seemed intent on showing his attacking nature –
making a run a ball 22 before Daniel Christian took the prized wicket as the veteran was caught out at point off a leading edge.
At 90 for 2, Chandimal and Jayawardene added a brisk 63-run partnership which took the game away from the hosts. Both players seemed at ease while facing the Aussie bowling attack, which  failed to stem the flow of runs.
However, the skipper departed against the run of play after he was stumped by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/XJ-Doherty-c2804. His 85-run innings though, had left his team in a pretty healthy position, which was further capitalized upon by Chandimal,
who went onto score a commanding half-century.
His dismissal (80) in the 45th over kept things in the balance, but with Angelo Matthews on the crease – the Lankans held the advantage.
The all-rounder fell in the second last over of the game to leave the game wide open however, up stepped   Thisara Perera, who then smashed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 in utter disbelief.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KMDN-Kulasekara-c1802 then put the finishing touches by hitting Brett Lee’s second ball ( off the final over) to the cover boundary, as the tourists completed a resounding victory.
Earlier, it was the heroics of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Forrest-c2176, who scored his maiden ton, which helped his team to post an above par total. However, with him ending up on the losing side, Jayawardene was awarded with the Player of the Match accolade.
