Australia vs Wales: Test fixture – Rugby News
Australia and Wales are standing neck to neck in a one match test series on Saturday, December 1, at Millennium Stadium and both sides are motivated to grab nothing less than victory. The Wales’ side is inspired to win the clash for their outgoing veteran
star, Shane Williams, who will be seen for the last time in action in his international career. On the other hand, Wallabies are also set to spoil the Welsh dream of ending Williams’ tenure in an ideal way.
This will be the first meeting of the sides after the Rugby World Cup 2011, in which they played a bronze medal match. Wallabies outscored Wales in that clash by a slight margin of 21-18 and secured a third position in the global show. Welsh side played
that match without their regular skipper Sam Warburton, who was red carded during the semi-final clash against France, for a brutal tackle to Merc Vincent. Later on, he was banned for two matches for the same reason.
Shane Williams, the Welsh wing, has been largely appreciated by local and international players for his tremendous record. The Wallabies flanker David Pocock has also applauded Shane Williams for his excellent track record. Paying a tribute to the outgoing
player, Pocock said that, “What a player! You think of Welsh rugby and it’s very hard not to think of Shane Williams making defences look silly with his side-step, pure speed and ability to sniff out a try. He’s probably a bloke who deserves a fairytale ending
to his Test career but we will be going into the game with the intention of spoiling his party.”
Barry John, the ex Wales’ player, also appreciated Williams for his unmatchable services for the country and declared him the best winger of Welsh history. Meanwhile, talking about his retirement, Shane Williams said that, “It is sad knowing I won't be playing
international rugby any more after this match but you know in your heart when it's time to finish and that is that moment for me.”
Shane Williams is retiring from international rugby after playing 86 tests for Wales.
