Australia win London Sevens Australia favorite to win Edinburgh
Australia cruised to a win in the London rugby sevens and have become the favourites to win this weekend’s event in Edinburgh.
Australia combined a great deal of experience, talent and pace to beat off the likes of England with very little trouble. Their performance in London has caused some to suggest that the Wallabies could well be getting back to their best in all forms of rugby union.
Australia has been in a phase of transition in terms of international rugby over the last two or three years. International results have not been what the side expected and it is clear that the full side still want revenge after crashing out of the last World Cup to a much weaker England side.
Rugby sevens enjoys a mixed reception from many in the rugby community. Some say it is a true test of organisation and skill while others debate that any side with pace will win a sevens event.
Form
The Australia sevens side is in perfect form and have rarely struggled in a recent game. They have pace all over the pitch, which helps them pick gaps going forward and close them retreating back.
They are firm favourites for the weekend event in Edinburgh because of their strong performance in London. There is only a few days between these sevens events, which causes all sorts of problems for teams.
Firstly, they do not have an extended period of time to recover to one hundred per cent physically. This means that all international teams have to pick themselves up for the weekend in Edinburgh and address an injury concerns promptly.
It will also be clear now that homework has to be done on the Australian team. The problem is that there is only so much you can do in just a few days. Teams may have already accepted they will lose to Australia, which is not the mentality needed for teams looking to cause an upset.
Players and Injuries
Australia have a fully fit squad going into this weekend’s event in Edinburgh. One or two players picked up slight niggles over the weekend but there is nothing serious, which would cause drastic changes within the Australian squad.
Brackin Karauria-Henry looks a good bet to be the highest point scorer this weekend. He often finds himself on the tips of the wing play for Australia, which means he is in the perfect position to bomb forward and burst through the opposition defence for tries.
James Stannard could also push him for the most points this weekend because the Australian’s kicking was virtually perfect all throughout the London leg of the sevens competition.
Betting Advice
Back Australia to the hills because there is not another side that can get near them at the moment. There is simply not enough time for other international sides to adapt and change their style of play to dent the way Australia go about their business.
A good option would be to bet individually and accumulatively on Australia, which will produce the best results. The only other side that looks like beating them at the moment is South Africa. However, the Springboks are one of the most unpredictable sides in rugby sevens. If you are looking for an outside bet then go for the South Africans.
In terms of individuals then put your money on Karauria-Henry. Kicking players do not have as big an impact in sevens as they do in the full version of rugby union. Therefore you need to back players who get into attacking positions most often, which will mean they have a better chance of scoring tries and points.
