Australian A League: Fabian Barbiero extends Adelaide stay
Adelaide United midfielder, Fabian Barbiero has re-signed with the side after he inked a new 2-year deal with Adelaide on Monday.
The local theme continued at Adelaide after the 26-year-olds’ commitment as North Queensland star Osama Malik was also lured by Adelaide coach, Rini Coolen after the Pakistani origin player spent 2 years in North Queensland.
The Dutchman, Rini was pleased with Barbiero’s performances after the player added much needed versatility to his game. Coolen said that although Barbiero is a midfielder, he can still be a useful right back and can play in different positions. Coolen also said that being from Adelaide, Barbiero has become a vital asset to his side.
The 26-year-old made his debut for Adelaide United in 2007 after he was signed from Metro Stars, an Adelaide Super League club.
The season didn’t start too well for Barbiero as he missed the first 9 matches due to an ankle injury. When right back Mullen was injured, Barbiero filled in as a right back and he is expected to finish the current A-League season on a strong note.
Barbiero himself admits that he is happy to sign an extension with Adelaide United as he is also from Adelaide and is now focused to do well with the club.
