Australian A League: Sydney F.C taking small steps

Vitezslav Lavicka, the coach of Sydney F.C, believes that his resurgent side is now taking small steps on the road to perdition after a well deserved hard-fought 2-1 away victory against Newcastle Jets this Monday.
Two defensive blunders gave Sydney a chance to capitalize and take the lead as Hirofumi Moriyasu and Bruno Cazarine scored a goal each. Moriyasu, a Japanese import, was left unmarked at the back post and he took full advantage of it by tapping the ball in
from a corner. Cazarine then put another ball in the Jets net to give Sydney a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The second half saw the Sky Blues defending throughout the remaining 45 minutes of the game. Lavicka was satisfied with his side's performance and thought that Sydney did very well in the first half by puting the home team under pressure before making full
use of the two chances that they converted into goals.
In the second half, though, the away side seemed to have lost all energy while going forward, as through a substitution, Newcastle Jets scored one goal and started piling even more pressure on the Sydney defense to find a goal that would level the scores.
But the Sydney F.C players showed a lot of character and held on to the lead as they played as a very compact unit.
Before the match, Sydney F.C were lying at the bottom of the Hyundai A-League standings, but the win now lifts the side up. It was a small step for the team but an important one as they put an end to a poor run of 5 games without scoring.
Lavicka also spoke about his contract negotiations at the club that was also considered one reason for his side's poor performances before the win and said that he has a very professional relationship with his players.
