Australian Brett Rumford leading the Ballantine’s Championship after second round – Golf news
Australian Brett Rumford is leading the Ballantine’s Championship after posting a nine under par 63 in the second round.
After posting a one under par in the opening round at the Blackstone Golf Course in Korea, Rumford is now leading by three shots. Seren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Spanish Miguel Angel Jimenez are in second place. Both the players are tied after being seven
under par overall in the tournament.
Rumford truly gave an amazing performance as he moved 18 places up the leader board. He had a flawless bogey free round and hence is closer to his fourth victory. Having won on the European Tour three times, Rumford is eager to end the four-year victory
drought. The last title he won was the Omega European Masters in 2007.
Rumford started off with a couple of birdies on the second and third holes. Making another set of bogeys on the fifth and sixth, the Australian really set the course on the fire as he made a birdie on the eighth hole. The back-nine were all the more impressive
with four birdies and no bogeys.
“I'm in a position now to be thinking about winning, that's for sure,” he said. “Maybe at the start of the week, not so, as I haven't come into this week with that great of a form. But this is a funny game and it can change from week to week. I think the
difference between today and yesterday is just the wind out there. It was a lot calmer and obviously a lot easier to control the ball coming into these very firm greens.”
The only player to match Rumford’s supreme round was the Danish Kjeldsen who posted a 66 in the second round. He made five birdies on the front-nine and two birdies and one bogey on the back-nine. The favourite of the Ballantine’s Championship Lee Westwood
moved up an impressive 25 places after posting a four under par 68.
With two more rounds remaining, the Ballantine’s Championship is surely an interesting tournament to follow. Let’s see who manages to win the honour.
