  1. I would advise hitting a dog show or meet with the breeders of such dogs to see which appeals to you.  Good breeders will give the good, bad and the ugly about the breed they love (as long as they are not in the middle of showing) and allow you to spend time a little time with their dog so you can see how you "fit".

Both would be demanding in their own right and both have reputations for being dog aggressive which would mean socialize, socialize, socialize.  Canaan's may have some lines with previously feral dogs and ACD's have a touch of dingo way back.  Neither would be for the faint of heart!

  2. If you compete in agility, go for the CATTLE DOG!  Hands down!

Wow its funny you asked this because I have owned two caanon dogs and a cattle dog currently!

Both are EXTREMELY demanding of excersize and should be taken on runs daily.  Cattle dogs are avid ehrders and will need to have a source of mental stimulation just like the border collie.  Sheep herding classes are reccomended highly for the dogs.  Caanon dogs are very shy dogs and skittish.

  3. If you get an ACD you must be willing to excersice it because they are breed for herding so like any other cattle dog they are energetic, I am talking like walks, playing with it, giving it lots of attention. They are all good breeds.
