Australian Closed Championships Sydney: Joyce Leong crushes Buddhima Fernando in first round
Australia’s Joyce Leong showed her remarkable skills on court as she played with impressive control and won her Women’s Singles first round encounter against Buddhima Fernando at the 2012 Australian Closed Championships Sydney in Australia, on Wednesday,
August 29.
The talented Joyce Leong played to her maximum potential in the whole battle and remained successful in getting rid of her rival in a spectacular three-set contest that took the best from both contestants.
The aggressive Joyce could not produce better form in the first set but she found a wonderful flow in the following sets and remained successful in ousting her opponent in rubber games with a reasonable margin on the score board.
Buddhima, on the other hand, played impressively controlled badminton in the opening game and she remained confident all the way to wrap up the opening game. However, she failed to shake the boat of her rival in the following games and lost to her with a
respectable difference on score board.
The first set was absolutely fantastic for the home fans as both shuttlers gave their best effort to put up strong show of aggressive badminton and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Joyce could not match the speed and perfection of Buddhima despite putting in her best effort and eventually lost the set with a 16-21 score on the board.
In the following set, both players again showed a wonderful fight as they played attacking badminton and the score remained close until the end of opening half.
After the interval, Joyce played better game and managed to snatch the game from her rival by a tight margin of 21-19.
The deciding set was not different from the previous game as both shuttlers again pushed each other in all areas by showing their aggressive skills until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Joyce took over the charge from her opponent by playing fast and controlled game and remained successful in clinching the final set with a decent margin of 21-18.
Joyce emerged as the winner in this phenomenal three-set contest by a 16-21, 21-19 and 21-18 score on the board.
