Australian spin legend, Shane Warne, has escaped a ban in the Indian Premier League that threatened to end his glittering cricketing career prematurely.
The 41-year-old has been fined a whopping US $50000
for a bust-up with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjay-c88566 Dixit, after his side suffered a defeat against Kochi Tuskers.
Warne is due to appear in his final game as a professional cricketer, when his side take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the IPL on Friday, May 20.
Warne’s trouble, however, may not yet be over as the Rajasthan Cricket Association had just lodged a complaint with the games governing body in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, BCCI.
The regional association wanted the legendary spinner to be banned for a game but the BCCI decided to only go with a hefty fine, to penalise the player.
In a statement, the BCCI said the disciplinary commission said, “Regards the public criticism of Mr Dixit as being a serious breach by Mr Warne of his IPL playing contract.”
The BCCI added, “However, at the same time, the commission also recognises that Mr Warne has apologised to Mr Dixit, and that the incident occurred just after the match.”
The reported incident occurred when the spinner expressed his anger over the choice of playing surface for the IPL games against Chennai Super kings and the Bangalore Royal Challengers, both of which the Royals lost.
Dixit claimed that he was being put under pressure by Warne to provide a favourable wicket for those games and after a defeat against Chennai, Warne questioned why the Royals were forced to play on two different surfaces for two consecutive
home games in the league.
The two back-to-back defeats have severely dented Royal’s hopes of making it to the IPL play-offs and have all but shattered Warne’s dreams of a second edition crown.
The Australian legend is set to retire from all forms of cricket after his side’s last league game against the Mumbai Indians. Warne is undoubtedly one of the best spinners who have ever embraced the game of cricket.
