Australian Cricket legend Glenn McGrath remarries
The rumor mills have been churning out the news of Australian cricketing great bowler Glenn McGrath tying the knot with his fiancée Sara Leonardi this week.
The Aussie media confirmed the reports today as the helicopters and paparazzi cameras hovered over the small town of southern Sydney, Cronulla where former bowler McGrath and Leaonardi exchanged their vows.
The wedding news was wrapped up by the media and even cricketing circles as no invitation was given out and there was no notification on the star bowler’s official website.
McGrath’s media manager Warren Craig later confirmed the news to the media saying it was low key affair with “close family and immediate friends as they got married on Thursday afternoon.”
The wedding would be the second marriage for McGrath after his first wife Jane McGrath lost her long fought battle with breast cancer two years ago. They have two children James and Molly who are ten and eight year old respectively. McGrath along with his
first wife started a charity campaign McGrath Foundation in order to create awareness about the disease before she passed away in June 2008 at the age of 42.
The simple and secretive marriage ceremony was a very small affair with around nine guests to be known to give their blessings to the new couple. McGrath’s parents along with his children and Leonardi’s parents were present in the ceremony. The couple wanted
to keep the wedding ceremony and the news under immense secrecy as to such lengths that their house’s windows were covered with thick sheets of plastic. The reception was also a very intimate affair in the couple’s house.
The neighbors alerted the media personnel as even they were not aware of the ceremony taking place next door. The former bowler also had booked a speaking seminar at Sydney cricket club for Thursday afternoon. It seems as if McGrath did this to avert the
paparazzi from crashing into their small ceremony.
McGrath who is 40 years and Leaonardi is a 28 years Italian-American interior designer who met at a party in Cape Town, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in 2009. They got engaged in July 2010 and McGrath has openly credited his new wife to have been the “one who have made him
feel alive again” after his first wife’s devastating death.
Former colleagues of the cricket star were surprised to hear the news as long time friend and former team mate, leg spinner Shane Warne expressed his delight on the micro blogging site Twitter.
