Australian Damian Cudlin will represent Mapfre Aspar team at the Australian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
World Endurance rider Damian Cudlin will be riding for Mapfre Aspar team at his home event, the Australian Grand Prix taking place on October 16, 2011.
Earlier at the Japanese Grand Prix, Cudlin took part in the race as a substitute for injured Pramac Racing rider Loris Capirossi. The Aussie rider was invited to race along Randy de Puniet at the Twin Ring Motegi.
Cudlin said, “This is a fabulous opportunity for me, I honestly can't believe it. A week ago I made my debut in MotoGP and that was already a shock. It gives me great pride to be competing in MotoGP, the best championship in the world, and especially with
such a great outfit as the Mapfre Aspar Team.”
The Australian rider was short of experience about a MotoGP prototype and the Japanese track Motegi. Despite that, he delivered impressive performance through the race weekend. Unfortunately, he could not finish the race due a mid-race crash.
Cudlin further said, “My first experience in Japan was unforgettable and now just two weeks later I get another opportunity. Last year I had the opportunity to compete in the German Grand Prix but that was in the Moto2, and I finished 7th.”
He is pleased to get another chance from a MotoGP team to ride a premier class machine in an important event. His MotoGP debut race was aboard a satellite Ducati GP11 and the second will also be again on Mapfre Aspar’s satellite Ducati.
Cudlin aims to avail every minute of the opportunity as he crashed in the first appearance. He praised the level of performance and technology put in the MotoGP prototypes which he felt was outclass.
While talking about his lack of previous experience of MotoGP and Motegi, he said he worked hard to get in the mix. On the contrary, Phillip Island circuit is not unknown to him and he expects to start the weekend on a good note.
The event being his home event on a known track will obviously help the rider to outshine in the Australian GP. Let’s see how he fares.
