Australian James O’Connor to decide his Super Rugby career during current week - Rugby News
Australian back-rower and inside-centre James O’Connor is likely to decide his Super Rugby career during the current week.
One of the best players of Australia, James O’Connor is recently playing for Western Force in the ongoing Super Rugby competition. The full-back has been approached by Melbourne Rebels, ACT Brumbies and Queensland Reds to play for their sides in the next
season.
James started off his international rugby career with Australia in 2008 against Italy as full-back. Later, he was shifted to various positions like fly-half and inside-centre. He was named 2009 Rookie of the Year and he remained top try scorer in 2010 Tri
Nations series along with Mils Muliaina.
O’Connor became the centre of attention for rugby lovers in Australia when he scored a late try followed by a conversion against All Blacks last year, helping his team to grab their first victory over New Zealand in the last eleven outings.
The Australian confirmed that many Super Rugby conferences have been approaching him to hire his services. However the star player has not taken any decision yet and is expected to decide his future by the end of this week.
He argued and said, "I haven't made a decision yet, but it'll be a footy decision. This is the time-frame I wanted to look at, this week. Until now I just wanted to focus on football. But now I will just go through everything and see who is going to be best
for me."
Responding to stories of O’Connor, Force Chief Executive Vern Reid told the media that his side would leave no stone unturned to retain his services for next season. He really appreciated the efforts of O’Connor and said, "There is James's value to the team
and then there is James's value to the franchise. What James does is complete our retention puzzle and puts a sparkle on it. We see him being fundamental to our successful development."
Despite high praise of O’Connor, his side Western Force has not displayed any remarkable performance in the current Super Rugby, as they have only won three of their eleven outings.
