Australian League champions New Zealand Breakers hire Cedric Jackson: NBA Update
Cedric Jackson, a former NBA player, has been included into the roster of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) champions New Zealand Breakers for the 2011-12 season.
Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis said, "We look forward to Cedric coming in and finding his way into the group. As with all players, we expect him to contribute to the overall performance of the team."
The 25 year old Cedric has played as a guard with the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards. He played 12 games from each side in NBA. Besides that, Jackson also has the experience of playing in the NBA
Development League, where recently he participated in the All-Star game.
The 6 ft 3in Cedric will now join forces with fellow American Gary Wilkinson in the Breakers’ line-up.
Jackson was highly recommended to the Breakers by Nenad Vucinic, who is the head coach of the Tall Blacks and Ex-NBA star Dee Brown, who is the coach of a D-League team.
The Breakers coach Lemanis is satisfied with the background of Jackson and hoped that his NBA experience will also help other players of the team too. However, his expectations are high from the young guard as they look to defend
the title this fall.
Describing the responsibilities of Andrej Lemanis said that, "As a point guard, he will be responsible for creating for his teammates, running the team and provide scoring as appropriate. He has had very good assist numbers his
entire career so we look forward to him coming in and getting people some looks.”
Jackson will arrive in New Zealand fully prepared to fire all cylinders in September. Wilkinson, who gained immediate fame in his first season with the Breakers, will arrive almost at the same time. Because of his splendid performance
last season, Wilkinson was selected for the NBL First Team.
The Breakers are now almost done with their selection, as only one spot is left on their roster and that will be filled by getting some local player.
