Australian ODI squad for Sri Lankan series announced
A day after announcing the T20I squad for the one-off game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326
and Mitchell Johnson, who were all rested for the ODI series against India, are back in the side and will replace Callum Ferguson and David Warner from the squad that played in India.
The Australian selectors have also sprung a surprise by selecting left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854. Doherty has had an excellent season so far and has picked up 103 List A wickets in 85 matches.
He averages less than 29 per wicket.
Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors said: "His [Doherty’s] interstate one-day performances saw him make the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 A side this year and he has again started this season impressively. A left-arm
finger spinner could be important during the World Cup campaign and we are confident Xavier will perform very well if the opportunity presents itself."
The move is also seen as one to find a spinner for not only the World Cup but also for the Test matches in the future. Nathan Hauritz has had a bad series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in which he was knocked around by the Indian
bowlers and his future is in jeopardy. Hauritz misses the first ODI against Sri Lanka as he will play in the New South Wales' Sheffield Shield match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834.
The pace bowling attack will have Peter Siddle joining in Johnson, Mitchell Starc, John Hastings and Clint McKay. While Johnson was rested from the India series, Siddle hadn’t been picked for the Indian ODIs
due to his injuries and the side had McKay, Starc and Hastings leading the attack in India.
Australia will also miss Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris due to their injuries. Brad Haddin will keep the wickets, replacing Tim Paine, as he had done for the T20Is as well while Steven Smith will be the other
spinner.
