Australian Open GP Gold: Anthony Joe ousts Daniel Wu to penetrate into Men’s Singles main round
Australia’s Anthony Joe displayed an amazing performance as he secured his berth in Men’s Singles main round after beating Daniel Wu in the qualifying round of 2012 Australian Open GP Gold in Australia, on Tuesday, April 3.
Anthony was in tremendous form but he had to work extra hard to overpower his team-mate Daniel who put up strong resistance in the contest.
However, it was Anthony who managed to dominate the pace in the ending phase and won the fight in three games by consuming 46 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Daniel played well but not enough to dominate the game in the final set and lost the match with a decent margin on the board.
In the first set, both men snapped each other’s heel by playing to their maximum potential and progressed equally until the one-minute interval.
They continued playing in the similar entertaining fashion after the break and no one could set up lead until the score reached at the ending stage.
At this crucial stage, Anthony played with superb control in his strokes and managed to win the set with a narrow 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, Daniel played different badminton as he played flat strokes to put pressure on his opponent who failed to any advantage in the opening half. Until the break, both men were quite close on the score board.
After the interval, Anthony tried to play different game but his rival was quicker this time. He could not dominate the pace and lost the second set with a deficit of 16-21.
In the decider, both men put up thrilling show by maintaining a fast tempo of rallies and remained close until the end of first half.
After the break, Anthony controlled the pace by playing impressive net shots. His spinning net shots forced his opponent to lift the bird high in the air and he took advantage by executing powerful smashes.
Anthony played positive and attacking badminton in the concluding phase of deciding set and won it with a decent score of 21-18.
He emerged as victorious in this qualifying-round clash in 46 minutes with a tight margin of 21-19, 16-21 and 21-18.
