Australian Open GP Gold: Chen Jin overpowers Takuma Ueda to surge into Men’s Singles semi-final
China’s in-form shuttler Chen Jin showed his elevated craft as he reserved his place in Men’s Singles semi-final after beating Japan’s Takuma Ueda in the quarter-final battle at Australian Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, April 6, at Sydney, Australia.
The top seeded Chen Jin, who is World Number Five at the moment, played up to expectations and overpowered his talented Japanese opponent without losing any game.
Jin was quicker in the court and managed to beat Ueda with a decent margin in straight games by taking 55 minutes.
On the other hand, Ueda gave a good fight to the top seeded Chinese shuttler but failed to prove his worth in the concluding phase and bowed down to his rival without winning any set.
The top seed started his campaign in a commanding manner as he played his normal game and moved his opponent in all corners of the court.
The un-seeded Japanese also played well and matched the speed of his higher ranked Chinese challenger and remained equal on the board until the score reached at 4-4.
However, Jin geared up his speed at this stage and established a wonderful gap of 11-7 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Ueda worked well by taking the bird early from all areas and levelled the score at 11-11.
Both shuttler progressed equally from this stage and reached at16-16 when Jin took over the control and won the set with a margin of 21-17.
In the following set, Ueda played with precision and stunned his opponent by taking a wonderful lead of 8-2.
However, Jin controlled the pace and managed to level the score at 9-9. Until the break, both men were moving closely on the board.
After the break, Jin dominated the game and took a small lead which was levelled by his Japanese rival at 16-16.
The score remained close until 19-19 when Jin grabbed two consecutive points by playing attacking badminton and clinched the set with a difference of 21-19.
The Chinese won this 55-minute contest with a 21-17 and 21-19 score on the board.
In the semi-final match, Jin will take on Indonesia’s Simon Santoso who won his quarter-final clash against Korea’s Shon Wan Ho.
